The Ocean Called

Updated: Oct 18, 2020

Today, the Sea was as quiet as a town on a sunny day.

Lucas and Amelia had been at the sea for four days. While Amelia was seasick and been throwing up her food, Lucas was perfectly healthy and over positive to find land in this vast ocean of nothingness.

These two young lovers got tedious with their mundane village life and travelled the entire world and make history. While they started on a luxurious cruise, great tragedy struck them. And now, they are keen to find land in their tiny boat.

They saved three dogs. Cookie, Cream and Cheese. Yes, these were the names they decided upon. And how could they forget the screeching, troublesome cat named Bane?

‘Did you see any land yet?’ Amelia asked, exhausted

‘Meow?’ Bane added

‘If I would see, then I would surely inform you.’ Lucas assured her and bane.

‘I am tired, I am sleeping,’ Amelia said, yawning

‘You were sleeping just now! It’s your turn to watch.’ Lucas objected ‘I am gonna sleep.’

‘Great, I am tired of being tired.’ Amelia groaned. ‘When do you think we are going to find land?’

‘By my calculations, we are heading north, so we are probably going to see any sign of land in five days.’

‘Hope we have enough food left until then!’

Amelia looked at Lucas expecting for a reply but saw that she already lost him in his dreams. She planted on a kiss on his forehead and admired his face under the shining stars. ‘Oh boy, when will you grow up?’ She said, fiddling with his hair.

Amelia didn’t sleep a wink that night. Probably because she was the entire day. She just sat adoring the beautiful sky and humming her favourite song.

When Amelia saw the Sun rising at the borderless horizon, she woke up Lucas. Well, he didn’t wake up in one call because he is as sleepy-headed as a cat. He finally woke up after Amelia threw water on him. He spoke nothing but just stared blankly at the animals.

‘Hey, Amelia,’

‘Hmm…?’

‘Don't you think we should think about them?’

‘About whom?’

‘The animals.’

‘What about them?’

‘Please, we could keep them. Please? He made an enchantingly captivating face which Amelia couldn't refuse to.’

‘We don't even live together. But fine. We will keep them.’

‘Yes, thank you!’

‘When you marry me.’

‘Oh, definitely! Your Majesty, I would do anything for these angels.’ Amelia guffawed and blushed.

‘Then definitely!’ Amelia smiled and hugged Lucas.

‘Promise?’

‘Promise!’ Amelia chuckled.

Amelia and Lucas divided the chores for their future house. And that's not all. They even planned out which colour carpet their house would have to the house they would live in. They finally decided upon a beach house. Then they laughed like crazy after they realised what they had been doing. They took a nap.

But when they woke up, they noticed the sky changing colours.

The weather looked different today. The dull grey cloud covered the bright skies. The birds didn’t sing their sweet songs. The smell of the saline water filled their lungs as their tiny boat fought the mighty ferocious waves. Lucas and Amelia gathered the distressful and harrowing animals to the middle of the boat.

‘Quick! bring the supplies here!’ Amelia called.

Lucas and Amelia gave their finest to keep everything safe and save their boat. Lucas handed Amelia wooden oars and took one himself. They didn't know what they were doing, but they applied all they knew about controlling boats. Their only goal was to survive.

Move the boat to the west! Lucas shouted over the loud crack of the waves.

Solid oncoming waves were damaging the wooden oars, which slowly broke. Then, after some time, Amelia could hear the cries of her cat. She rushed over to her. She saw the injured cat, one of its limbs bleeding.

‘Oh no!’ Amelia murmured to herself.

‘What?’ Lucas questioned/

‘The cat- The cat is bleeding!’ Amelia said in shock, ‘ Do we have a first aid kit?’

‘You can take my oar, you row the boat and I’ll take care of the cat!’ Lucas said leaving his oar behind for Amelia

Amelia was under grave stress. She couldn’t take control of the damaged boat now. The waves were rowing the boat themselves. One oar that Amelia received from Lucas broke. She saw that in the west was even a greater storm. She went east instead.

‘Where are you going?’

‘East!’ Amelia said, putting all her energy into changing directions of the boat. ‘There is too much of a storm to move west!’

Lucas hurriedly but securely bandaged the cat and went over to Amelia to help row the boat.

‘Where is the other oar?’

‘Broken, just take this!’ Amelia handed Lucas the oar, not broken.

Amelia was new to all of this. But she gave her full potential. So much so, she was feeling dizzy. The waves attacked her, and she fell unconscious. Lucas didn’t realize this in the middle of all disaster.

‘Amelia?’ Lucas looked over to her. ‘AMELIA!’

The dog was sniffing around her.

‘Get aside!’ Lucas ordered the dog

‘Amelia, hey, wake up!’ Lucas said, hoping that she could hear what he was saying. ‘Talk to me, hey!’

Lucas’ efforts failed. Amelia wasn’t waking up. Then he noticed the bleeding injury on her leg and her head.

‘Ok, ok, calm down.’ Lucas said to himself.

He took Amelia in his arms and placed her in the middle of the boat. He couldn’t leave her. In the raging storm, Lucas was all alone. The only thing he could do to save himself and the others was to stay with them. He held Amelia in his arms together with the animals, to not fall off the boat. Lucas was on the edge, on the edge of the boat and on the edge of breaking down.

‘Amelia, please say something!’ Tears fell down his eyes. “Please” Lucas cried on Amelia’s shoulder.

“L-Lucas,” Amelia whispered weakly, “Don’t worry a-about me. The boat. Please,”

Lucas did exactly what she said. He moved the boat towards the east. The waves weren’t helping either. But Lucas fought through to protect his beloved. Lucas soon fell unconscious.

He woke up and saw that the sky was free of clouds and the yellow sky was. As they overcame through the clouds, it was as if the life on earth healed. The depressing weather changed into a hopeful one.

It took two long days for Amelia to recover. On the third day, they saw land. But it still was a long way to go.

‘How are you feeling now?’

‘I am good.’ Amelia breathed, smiling. ‘But will you go with me on more adventures after this?’

‘Amelia, I can take you on a thousand more adventures. I love you’. Lucas said assuringly. He gave a peck kiss on the back of her hand.

‘And can we take these animals as our pets?’ Amilia laughed, holding his hand.

‘Yes!’

‘Promise?’

‘Promise!’
